A Word From Our Chairman For The New Season

It should be that time of the year that all football fans should be looking forward to the start of the new football season. However Covid 19 has taking its toll on the world, including football and thankfully football is slowly progressing in the right direction. I speak on behalf of everyone at Greater Leys Youth FC in saying how excited we are ahead of the new season. The League predict fixtures should go ahead as normal starting the first week of September. I hope and pray that everybody stayed safe during pre-season with the Covid Virus threatening to cause trouble in every household.

The Club is growing and developing and we have a few additional teams and it demonstrates the Club is progressing the right way. It looks really good with both Adult teams recruitment creating a pathway and the young Kites creating a positive foundation for the future of the Club.

Last season all the teams finished in excellent form and considering a unexpected end to the league campaign, most teams have been retained ahead of the new campaign, as well as adding several new quality players which creates strength and good competition within the teams. Hopefully we are heading into the new season with great confidence and optimism and I am so excited to see where we are the end of the season.

As well as adding new players, there have been a few additions in the coaching staff as we welcome Rafa Wach on board as the new Coach/Manager of the new U7 team. I believe he will be tremendous in the role and Rafa is also a great asset to the team’s development. It gets better. The U14 team are so, so lucky in recruiting Martin Clarke as Goal Keeping Coach, Martins knowledge and experience is a huge coupe for the Club and the U14 team. It gets better. Jeff Sackey and a real good friend and fellow Academy Coach with Reading FC has joined the coaching staff helping myself with the foundation teams of GLYFC. Loads of experience especially working with younger ones. The future looks good and i cant wait for the next season to start.

I would also like to take this time to thank all the Managers/Coaches and wish them all the best for the new season, whenever it starts.

Lots of work is taking place during the summer behind the scenes at the club and I would like to offer my thanks to all our volunteers for their efforts and commitment to Greater Leys Youth FC. A special thanks to the Becky Makeever who has gone above and beyond with all her efforts and the work she does. League, FA registration and the Charter Standard Health Check are just a few of the things she does. A huge thanks and appreciation to Becky.

Ian Fieldwick's contribution to Club has been huge, he's coached, managed teams and been there from the start. Now Ian looks after the clubs finances and makes sure the Club stays safe with welfare and now with Covid-19.

No names given away with this member of the club, who is he? He's usually called sir by the younger ones. At a young age I named him best lino in the league and he's not a night, he may think he is. In his younger days he was the best LB in the league and he still plays for the Club. He's a top person and makes sure all the teams have a pitch to play on, a opposition to play and keeps myself in line, helping me chair the club. He's also managed a team and you can sometimes see this person on his day off officiating games on a weekend. You can see the person mentioned in the photo above. What a team we have!

The Clubs drive, passion to provide the best for its teams has taken a huge step forward with the new 4G pitch at the Oxford Academy. It’s of the latest spec and comes with floodlights, proposed new changing facilities in the near future and the new playing surface is certainly one of the best in the league and County. We're still in partnership with the Oxford Academy and next seasons training and fixtures are booked .

Our club is moving forward with great spirit and togetherness both on and off the field. . Our teams continue to go from strength to strength with good people who encourage the children and one another to enjoy playing Football. Good luck to all our teams for the season ahead, whenever it starts and I hope to see many of you throughout the season.

Come on you Kites and best wishes! Oh and please stay safe!

Nick Courtney-Cramp

Greater Leys Youth FC Chairman.
